Hindi Poem – ‘Padhaai’ By Seema Verma

‘Padhaai’ is a Hindi word for studies. And who likes to study when you can go out and play in the park. Our Hindi poem ‘Padhaai’ shares just that. The mischevious childhood, where sneaking out to play, in the sun all day was our favourite.

Ah! the Joys of childhood. Can you bring it back to me? I didn’t have to worry in the world. Only thing I was expected to do was go to school and study. But I didn’t care much for it – the ‘Padhaai’. All I wanted to do was getting off the school bus, throw my bag on the floor and calling out for my friends.

We would gather in the playground. Playing Chupan Chupaai (Hide and Seek), Hop Scotch etc. Hunger, Heat, Cold nothing bothered us. All we cared about was our playtime.

We would play till my mother called and called and CALLED us to come inside and eat something. We wouldn’t listen. Then she had no choice but come down to the playground. Seeing her come onto us made us run inside to save our lives!

It was embarrassing and hilarious at the same time.

Written by Seema Verma and recited by Diya Agrawal. This Hindi poem brings back the memory of carefree childhood. Chasing butterflies, playing in the mud and god knows the games we invented as children.

You can use this Hindi verse for your child’s recitals or class assignments.
